150 Grand Cafe: Upscale Charm in
Downtown Escondido
New American cuisine with classical
French, California, Latino and some Asian influences. I had heard so many
wonderful descriptions of 150 Grand Cafe from the ambience, to the food, to the
service and I finally had an opportunity to try it myself. It may be a bit
over-rated because there are not many upscale restaurants in Escondido, besides
Vincent's Sirino's, that is. But the food was very good! The interior was very
clean and even fancy with its white table linens and napkins, almost a little
sterile. I was there for lunch, and would bet it's more romantic in the evening
with low light and soft music. Owned by couple Stephanie and Carlton
Greenawalt. She is the general manager and he is the chef. The menu includes
selections of appetizers like pate, soups like a thai hot and sour lobster
soup, salads such as a crab cobb salad, entrees like orzo with rock shrimp, and
of course a full list of delicious sounding desserts. Next time my friend and I
will go back just for dessert and coffee. While the service was a bit slow, it
was comfortable and gave our large party a nice chance to catch up and enjoy
each others' company. Not a place to go if you're trying to clock back into
work within an hour.
The Carmel and Spice roasted chicken breasts with wild brown rice and baby
carrots was amazing. The sweet and spicy flavor of the sauce was excellent with
the nutty, chewy rice. The chicken was cooked to perfection, crisp outside and
moist inside. Definitely a good choice. Open Hours: Lunch: 11:30am-3pm Mon-Fri;
11:30am-2pm Sat; Dinner: 5pm-9pm Mon-Thu; 5pm-9:30pm Fri-Sat; closed Sun
